Bike Path planned for Old Kamloops Road

Overlapping functions?
Maybe.

But there's definitely a lack of communication between RDNO and the City of Vernon.

Residents of Old Kamloops Road are frankly flabbergasted that after the Regional District of North Okanagan completes the separation (twinning) of water lines (between irrigation and domestic users), the City of Vernon's plans for a bike path might have the road torn up again.

The City of Vernon's road repair and a trail from 43rd Avenue to Goose Lake Road is expected to begin in the next year or two.

"Why can't our two local governments get their act together and plan the work concurrently," sighs a resident, adding "this is an outrageous waste of OUR money!"

The July 13th Morning Star (Rolke) story quoted Vernon's operations managaer, Shirley Koenig, as saying "(The roadside trail) would require extensive fill and property acquisition."

Property acquisition?
Hmmm...that's refreshing to hear.

The bike path's estimated cost is $280,000.
But it's the dollar amount that rings a bell from last year.

In 2011, Coldstream Municipality sought to have a Kidston Road resident fund a bike path along her considerable road frontage.  (She refused).
That bike path was slated to cost about $300,000.

Significant here is that the City of Vernon plans to "acquire property" for the bike path.

"Sounds like Vernon learned something from Coldstream's fiasco,"  grins Kia",  adding "at least the City of Vernon didn't resort to extortion."

You're welcome, Vernon, for the training seminar.
