Earthquake(s)!!!!!!

An earthquake in Salmon Arm, B.C. is apparently unusual, according to news sources.

So the 2.2 EQ at 8:39 p.m. on Saturday March 2nd was "lightly felt"
Radio sources the next day indicated people heard a "bang" in Salmon Arm at the time, and a few reports from Vernon said they also heard "a bang".

The news article stated "Large earthquakes are rare in the region, where a magnitude 6.0 quake was last recorded in 1918", over 100 years ago.

Then this morning on CBC radio (two days later), it was reported that a 4.6 earthquake occurred near Red Deer, Alberta.

Vesta Energy was conducting fracking in the area, and residents stated their "whole house shook".
The company immediately stopped activity.

The last time their area recorded an earthquake was a 4.0 in 1997, over 20 years ago.

frack·ing1

Dictionary result for fracking

/ˈfrakiNG/
noun
  1. the process of injecting liquid at high pressure into subterranean rocks, boreholes, etc. so as to force open existing fissures and extract oil or gas.
"the governor has halted gas fracking until July"

There are no fracking operations in the Salmon Arm area.

Of interest, both earthquakes were at a depth of about 1 kilometre.

"As long as Mount St. Helen's and Yellowstone stay quiet..." Kia would've said.

Yup.

Yellowstone!
Mount St. Helen's!
