Roses and Thorns...Literally

A dozen roses of sincere thanks to whoever (maybe the District of Coldstream?) filled in the numerous 6-inch deep potholes at the Buchanan Road community mailbox between Grey and Ricardo Roads.

Now for the Thorns...Literally

To the owner of the property at 8275 Buchanan Road, the east neighbour of the new Vi Morphet Dog Park for his crop -- and crop it is -- of Scotch Thistles between his house and the buildings of his neighbour on the east.  There must be 50 to 100 Scotch Thistles there; soon to bloom and spread seeds all over the valley!

Last year too!  Numerous complaints from downwind neighbours saw results, but you'd think the owner wouldn't wait for the Regional District to contact him again...(sigh).

Yet one more stand of about 20 or 30 Scotch Thistle is located on the west side of Highway 6, at the concrete abutment which overlooks the Hydro yard (near the Emco building where all the Save On Gas trucks are usually parked).  Those weeds are almost in bloom today.

The Regional District has a Noxious Weeds Program with a list/photos of noxious weeds that we're all trying to keep out of our area.

To report noxious weeds, phone:
John Friesen, RDNO,  250.550.3700.

"Nice to no longer plop into sinkholes when we pick up the mail," offers Kia.

Yup, it sure is.
