As this post is being written, Greater Vernon Advisory officials are in the RDNO boardroom, perusing bureaucrat-scribed Terms of Reference that will guide a special stakeholders' group in reviewing the Master Water Plan, whose $70 million borrowing referendum to fund projects failed last November.
You can bet that bureaucrats have eliminated some of their earlier-stated "principles". It is hoped that directors will ensure the following actually remains in the text today:
Primary Goals of Greater Vernon Water (GVW)
To ensure the ECONOMICAL supply and distribution of a sufficient quantity and quality of water in the interests of both agricultural and non-agricultural users in the Greater Vernon community. (source: RDNO website)
Directors must consider this anonymous comment from a GVW customer, whose water bill for three months last summer approached $800.
"We're encouraged to grow our own food?
I can't grow $800 worth of food in my garden for my family
to justify paying $800 for water..."
Consider this, GVAC directors:
What is ECONOMICAL to some
is UNECONOMICAL to most,
as evidenced by the current water rate structure.
"Only bureaucrats--with their incredibly-high wages--can afford those water costs," offers Kia, adding "certainly nobody on a fixed income or young families...even businesses are having challenges meeting 400 per cent rate increases in 8 years!"
Stay sharp, directors!
Hope you're all betting on success!
