An (unidentified) acquaintance is sending this letter on the Pipeline protest to Canada's PM:
"Right Honourable Justin Trudeau:
Re: Indian Pipeline Protests
By allowing Canadian citizens to
break Canadian laws while they protest and disrupt our Canadian businesses and
communities without your interference, you are not living up to your oft-quoted
phrase “Canadians are Canadians are Canadians”.
In Canada, one must be either
Indian or a Quebecois to get to break a Canadian law with no repercussions from
you and your party—and it sure helps to be an eastern Canadian, to wit: You did not return to Canada until the
eastern Canadian tribe of Mohawks joined the fray. As a Canadian from western Canada neither
Quebecois nor Indian you assuredly would not allow me to break the law in
similar fashion.
You opened the “reconciliation”
can of worms obviously with no thought or planning of how you were going to
handle reactions or situations that would inevitably arise. Any reconciliation cannot happen without
treating all Canadians equally.
Reconciliation will only come with some form of assimilation and phasing
out of Indian reserves.
Quit handing things over to the
Indians on a silver platter while the rest of us pay for it. Not surprisingly, such actions are not
appreciated and become seen as a right instead by many. In addition to our money, they’ve accepted
many of what they call “colonial” customs gladly and have you ever heard a
thank you from them? I haven’t. The government has created and carried on
racism by providing funds to segregate them on their reserves, such monies
enough to have bought any “unceded land” from them many times over.
We worked with Indians and lived
amongst and next door to them most of our lives in western Canada and found
them to be like us, just wanting to get along and live and work happily
together in the community. Does that
surprise or interest you?
I never thought I’d rue the day
Stephen Harper’s backbone was gone, but you’ve made it happen.
Now, get out there and show some
of your father’s mettle and tell them who the boss is so ALL Canadians may get
on with their lives and go to work! And
stop apologizing for me as in another of your favourite phrases “on behalf of
all Canadians”. I do not apologize for
sad misdeeds of forefathers—it was a part of history, a sign of the times, and
incessantly reflecting on a sad past needlessly inflicts depression on all
Canadians to no one’s advantage."
A very interesting letter!
It appears that more and more people feel Mr. Justin Trudeau is unfit to be Prime Minister.
I can't say that I disagree.
