In Coldstream, it all comes down to one word

Since Coldstream homeowners are now considered Developers by the incumbent mayor and council, election signs appear to underscore what has otherwise taken (how many??) previous Blog pages to convey.

But "developers" isn't the word...not today.

"My" or "your" Coldstream...the crux of the issue.

."My" or "your" Coldstream...what philosphy would you support a Mayor possessing?

For our incumbent mayor, it appears to come down to the first-person possessive.
That Coldstream is his.

Candidate Hrabchuk's "your" denotes plural ownership.
That Coldstream belongs to all who reside here.

"My, my..." sighs Kia, adding "primum non nocere."

  1. The only real criticism against Hrabchuk (other than lack of Civic Gov't experience)is the current council and their few supporters trying to paint him as a big time developer. I suppose if Garlick and crew get re-elected then we'll all be developers sooner or later, so what's the problem? I will take a developer over a socialist any day.

  2. Maybe the word "our" is appropriate.

  3. My Coldstream Matters! And my vision of Coldstream is the only one that matters because my family has been here longer than yours. If you don't like my vision you should move!(seriously I think Mayor Garlick feels this way, he has said this to more than one person)It is scary to think he could be re-elected!

  4. None of us can afford to share Mayor Jim's vision. With no commercial tax base, ill thought out development and a reckless environmental record we will end up getting swallowed up by Vernon when we can no longer meet our responsibilities. If they'll have us, that is.

  5. Sorry to say it , but Mr. Hrabchuk's lack civic experience, and poor understanding of the complexities of governance in Greater Vernon, will result in his losing his bid for mayor. Ironically, he would probably have been accepted by the electorate as a councillor (demonstrating that he was prepared to get on the "learning curve"), and may have proven himself to be very effective. I fear he bit off more than he can chew.

  6. I beg to disagree. Mr. Hrabchuk is well educated and has a lot of real world experience compared to our current mayor. His understanding of infrastructure projects will allow Coldstream to save money on studies and consultants. He will certainly be easier to work with for Vernon council as he does not possess the arrogance of Mayor Garlick. Here is an individual that is willing to be a full time Mayor and put his own career on hold for the betterment of our community. We are in trouble,Mr.Hrabchuk is better qualified to lead us out of the current mess. Perhaps someone who is not so mired in the current dysfunction of this area will be able to actually get something done! I think his lack of civil experience will be a breath of fresh air and a huge plus for our community.

  7. I think if even if Mr. Hrabchuk has a learning curve to go through our community will be in better hands than the current "my way or the highway" council(can you say fascism) that feel they have the right to restrict us on our own property. Property ownership is a right we must protect at all cost!

So, using your logic, a candidates worth is measured by their experience in civic politics. Therefore, we should allow the current mayor and council to "train" the next mayor. With any luck the incumbent would be a carbon copy of the outgoing mayor.

No thank you, I think I prefer some new thinking.

  10. This new poll suggests that Mayor Garlick may soon be referred to as Jim in the very near future.

it also suggests that Coldstream may not be left in a socialist, economic vacuum in the very near future/

  11. That's funny about the signs. Good catch. But you are far too generous with the use of "your". Your" isn't about the plural, that would be "our". "Your" is about pandering to the voter. Typical politician, beware. But "my" is just bad any way you slice it.

  12. You do have to wonder about the motives of a developer who wants to be mayor the first time he enters politics or, evidently, community service of any kind.

  13. "...the motives of a developer who wants to be mayor the first time he enters politics"...

The Servicing Bylaw designates all Coldstream homeowners are now Developers.

Or did you miss that part.

  14. That's funny, the whole point of this website seems to be that homeowners should not be considered developers.
Or did you miss that part?
Regardless, Hrabchuck is a profit driven developer. It seems to be the only job he's had. That's how he makes his money. He has no record of community service, let alone, politics. His platform is vacuous--typical BC Liberal talk about being fiscally responsible. I'm not falling for that again.
Love him or hate him. At least you know where Garlick stands.
