Proof is always in the Puddin'

...and the Puddin' is on the table.

The re-opening of amalgamation discussions for the North Okanagan has, not unexpectedly, led to a flurry of newspaper articles for The Morning Star.
With more to come.

Wednesday, September 11, 2013 Morning Star issue, page 3.

So what's this about Puddin'?

The proof that amalgamation would create efficiencies and save taxpayers money by eliminating parallel and overlapping bureaucracies is right there in the newspaper, conveniently juxtaposed.

Vernon's councillor Mary-Jo Okeefe was quoted as saying:  "I think it's time the province reviewed it," begins the quote.  'I don't know that I think we, as a district, Greater Vernon or area, are really the most efficient, effective government this area can have."

"Our governance is ineffective."  M. O'Keefe, Vernon councillor

And Coldstream's Peter McClean believes it (the review) has merit, adding that if a single governance does go through, McClean wants to see a ward system with representation from all areas on the new council, based on area populations.  An example of pros and cons for a Kelowna ward system is found here

If only ONE councillor felt the need to study amalgamation of the Greater Vernon Area, that would be proof--from those obviously 'in-the-know'--that there may be a more effective way to govern.

But we have TWO, with a possible third declining to comment on the subject.

Who better than a sitting councillor to know the ins and outs of the North Okanagan's myriad bureaucracies?

"Proof IS always in the puddin'," concludes Kia.
