VIDEO of Public Meeting May 19, 2015

How thoughtful of Vernon's Windmill Video Services to film the public event, which approximately 100 residents attended at Schubert Centre on May 19th, 2015.

A 2-minute encapsulated video of public comments is here

Some of the audio was overwhelmed by background noise, so the entire video on YouTube is available (33-minutes) here.

A sampling of some public comments:

"Duteau Creek is a slough, it's a slough, it's a slough, and it will always be a slough no matter what you pour into it."

"City hall staff need to be held accountable for water rates."  (Reply:  Problem is RDNO staff not Vernon or Coldstream)

"How can we get action? (Reply:  People need to talk to their elected officials.)

"Is there any way we can recall municipal representatives?"  (Reply:  Give them a chance to act responsibly)

"Water line upgrades are in progress and the new lines are still inadequate - what a waste. There should be a total system upgrade."  (Reply:  Maybe the Provincial Ombudsman should be contacted.)

"Too many chemicals are being used to treat water from the Duteau Creek slough." (Reply:  Agreed Duteau Creek requires too much treatment)

"Well done for the Citizens for Change to host this meeting.  Maybe some effort should be put into identifying gov't grants for the water system."

"In old days several businesses including a dairy had wells to supply potable water."

"Citizen has a water supply from creek @ Shuswap Lake; gravity settlement does better job than filtration.  GVW should use gravity settlement instead of floatation."

"Antwerp Springs well closed; now adjacent lands are saturated & flooded - why can't that water be used for something?"

"What do elected officials in attendance have to say?"  (Reply:  a quorum of Vernon councillors, plus their mayor were in attendance, two of whom are reps on GVAC).  Good for them for attending!

"Contact your elected officials and tell them you want change," suggests Kia.

Wayyyyyy better than silence!

Residents of this area are grateful to Citizens for Changes to the Master Water Plan.
