OKAY...Blogger switched me to the new format...aaargh!

We'll see how this prints!

This letter to B.C. education minister needs a reprint.

So many people agree with its contents.

"Dear Hon. Education Minister,

I am a 70 year old grandparent whose 6 year old grandson has been out of school for 5 months.

He is so looking forward to starting Grade 1 in School District ....xxx BC.

I heard on the radio this morning that September 8th may not be the school start date as teachers need time to discuss with their colleagues the critical issues of spacing of classes etc surrounding COVID-19.

Please allow me to state my disgust at both your—and the teachers’ union representatives—current decision to delay the opening for “several days”.

Ask yourself what I and many of my friends and colleagues have asked:  “So...5 months weren’t enough to consider how to do a reopening?  Really?”

May I suggest that Friday, September 4th (yes, they’re still on “vacation”) be used by teachers and their reps to finalize a reopening for Tuesday, September 8th.  No more waffling!  Make Friday Sept 4 a Professional Development Day ... however, in this unusual instance, how about you focus on how to do a reopening of schools on the 8th (versus “professional development”, which the general public considers to be a sham of the highest order).

Do your job...represent the parents of this province.

And represent our children and grandchildren, who need social interaction and education.

You’re the Education Minister, not the Teachers’ Minister!

I apologize if you’re offended by my comments, but everyone I know agrees with me.

Respectfully submitted from a tired-of-babysitting grandparent,"
